Hi im new to this forum. I did my injury in June this year amd had surgery on 3 of my joints in my right foot. I have plate removal on 28th oct. I wanted to ask advice on how long b4 i will b walking again as ill of non weight beared for whole time which will be 20 weeks in total. And then drive aswell. I have an air boot which ill keep until can weight bear etc but when do u think ill b in normal shoes or boots so i can drive. Thanks in advance. Its been a long process and my mood been low through most of it as i was an active person b4. I can now at least see an end to it and hoping walking will soon follow.

Hello, I to have suffered this Injury. In regards to when you will be walking again, every doctor is so different on their treatment plan that's it is pretty much impossible to say exactly what the timeframe will look like. I had ORIF and was NWB for 7 weeks, after 7 weeks I was able to WB in a boot, I stayed in the boot until HWR. After HWR I was FWB in a boot for 2 additional weeks then was able to walk in shoes. Most likely after HWR you will be NWB for a little while, only because your doctor has been on the more conservative side. Hope all goes smoothly for you!!

I was just wondering if you had your HWR surgery and how you are doing. I am 4 weeks post op from my 4th surgery after having a lisfranc Injury and was just hoping you were doing well and making progress.

    Hi Cassidy

Ive had my 2nd op which went well. Although they put me in my airboot and told my to minimal weight bear with stitches in. I did with help of the physio and managed few steps. I was apprehensive as non weightbearing for so long. I got discharged same day and went home. I got home took boot off to blood through all of bandages. I rang back to hospital they said go to urgent care i did. They wouldnt change dressing unless went to our main hospital as a compression bandage by this time bleeding had stopped and they said theyll give extra padding and just keep applying if bleeds. Which i did when needed. I then non weightbeared again. 2 week post op to see surgeon and remove stitches. Still not recieved paperwork for appointment to b told itll b january b4 seen. I wasnt happy so kicked off as needed answers and im seeing surgeon today 8/11 at 3pm. Was told that they werent taking stitches out today and no physio booked. So will see how today goes. Thank u for ur concern.

Glad you got the op done, sounds like they really didn't have their stuff together. I hope you are able to get stitches out today, doesn't seem like they should stay in until January. Hopefully things will feel even better after today :).

So glad you are seeing progress, this Injury is a long road to recovery, but sounds like you can see the light at the end of Tunnel. Good luck in PT!

I injured myself May 2016, had it missed for 8 weeks, had ORIF surgery 7/2016, HWR 11/2016, it failed and February 2017 I had Fusion done. I am currently 4 weeks post op full foot reconstruction and 3rd TMT fusion. I had a missed Injury and my arch collapsed.

    Thanks

    Hi Cassidy

Sorry to hear bout ur injury sounds like u have been through the mill to. Bless u x. So will u need further surgery etc. They have said if i get any pain in following years theyll fuse my joints to but got to wait and see if i do. Think they r worried bout arthritis setting in etc. But glad im nearing the end as like u said a long process. Wasnt expecting soo long but did a good job of it. Hopefully ull b sorted soon and we can have a fresh start in the new year. Xx take care of urself xx

    Hi Rachael,

I was also told after having ORIF that fusion would be likely 5-10 years, unfortunately that happened a bit sooner than expected. I am hoping that this will be the last surgery, they did 6 different Procedures and I don't think I can take anymore surgeries. I am hopeful both of us will be able to bring in in the new year on a positive note. I won't be fully walking until the beginning of January.

    Thanks
    Cassidy
