Ah I suffered the exact pain and you are right it is excruciating! I was at a loss as to what was causing it, after buying foot inserts, massage & acupuncture nothing worked! I finally gave in and went to an orthopedic doc and he quickly diagnosed me with plantar fasciitis. So his answer was to give me a hard foot brace to wrap on my foot every night. He explained that my plantar fascia was shrinking/tightening each night from the weight of the sheets so this "thing" would keep my foot in a straight stretched position so it could heal and would not hurt in the morning. Well I never used it one time, even though I paid for it. What I did was use a "toe tent" with that logic of just keeping my feet stretched at night, and it worked!!! So try one - there are a few different versions but the one I used was a RoomMate at toe-tents.com and it worked for me. it will cost way less than a doc!

    Hope this helps.

try relieving the pressure or weight on your feet at night by using a pillow or buying a sheet lifter like toe-tents.com after 8 hours of sleep with your feet in the down position your arch is shrunken and then you stand up and suddenly stretch it - that hurts and later in the day it is a little less painful - right? if you can keep that pressure off each night you may find that it finally starts to heal. Worth a shot.

This has just started on me today (Jan. 19, 2018). I am 54 years of age, but still feel like I'm 22, except my body quickly reverts to stiffness if I don't exercise. But today, just sitting in my office chair at work and all of a sudden this excruciating pain happens in my inner left foot. It was so bad, I screamed out loud! That was an hour ago and it has happened about 8 times within this one hour. It's so horrible that it takes my breath away and right after my heart is beating heavily. Before I can completely relax it happens again. I don't know what to do! I have to drive home and I'm afraid it will happen while I'm on the road! I'm in tears looking for answers on the internet. The only thing I did different right before the pain started was to drink Bone Broth from Sam's Club. And I bumped my right should very hard against the corner of my printer table. The pain is so horrifying that you will cry out to God or Jesus even if you're not a worshipper.

Exactly! I agree that it doesn't feel like joint pain, but rather a nerve. As a matter of fact, when I softly touch the area or what feels like a vein, it starts to hurt immediately.

I started to experience the same, sharp stabbing pain, left foot heal/ instep area. Standing, sitting, laying down, it will happen. Was hoping for some answer as I believe x-rays won't help, seems like a nerve thing. At least I can see I am not alone in this. Very painful but so far, thankfully short time.

This is different than plantar. I've had that and this short stabbing pain for no reason is completely different than how plantar feels. Good thing about plantar, you can self treat it. I did, yet I have friends that did cortisone shots til they couldn't anymore, then surgery. Be diligent in the foot exercises and icing, it will help.

I have this exact same pain...What type of dr should I make an appointment with to see for this? I dont have any health coverage. I am a self pay. So I dont want to go to 10 different doctors and pay for each to be referred to another.
I must find the root of what's causing my foot pain because I cannot take this anymore. It's like sporadic labor pains in my foot..

IKR? Sometimes foot pain can be like that and it's so hard to figure out what's happening! I hope you had some luck ever since then and you were able to figure it out. :)

I never had a nerve related issue but rather my joints and muscles caused my pain, I hope to read more replies about your nerve related issues and how you solved them! Take care everyone!
