My 10 year started playing soccer 2 weeks ago and has subsequently started c/o bilateral foot pain - states the "entire bottom of his foot hurts" but points to just behind the ball of his foot if pressed for "where it hurts the most." No specific injury or trauma; no edema or ecchymosis noted either. His feet have grown from a size 5.5 in March to a mens 9.5 presently. Motrin has helped but the pain always comes back when he runs. Do we need to say "no more soccer" or keep going with the NSAIDs? Should I have him looked at or see how he does?

    Thank you!

Quite obviously, SOMETHING is wrong, though it would be foolish of me to suggest which of the many things it could be. Certainly it would be poor judgment to just load him up with Motrin, or any other medication and send him back to play soccer, especially when you've already said that in spite of taking the Motrin the pain comes back when he runs. Whether or not he has a problem which can be treated so that he can safely return to athletics is yet to be known, but, of COURSE you should have him looked at rather than just hoping he gets better with time, as he might have a serious problem which is best treated earlier than later.
