    Hello,

I was hoping that someone might have experience after having a fusion of the 4th and 5th Metatarsals to the cuboid bone. I have had TMT joints 1-3 fused and now after seversl opinions I have been told that I need to have the 4th and 5th fused as well. I understand it is not a favored option in most cases, but my doctors seem to all agree it's the only option left for me.

If you have any experience after having this done please let know how you are doing and if the stiffness affects your day to day living.

    Thank you
    Cassidy

I think you will find that there will not be many people with experience of it, as it is not commonly done.

Thank you, I figured it would be a long shot, but thought I would try.

    Thanks

Why aren't they planning an arthroplasty operation rather than a fusion?

I was told by 3 different specialists that an arthroplasty wouldn't hold up for ever and a fudifu after or additoaddi correction later would be more difficult.

  6. I am considering the fusion also. Please let me know if you did this and your results.

I did have the fusions of the 4th and 5th along with fusion of the inter cuneiforms and an fhl tendon transfer. I am currently 23 weeks post op and full weight bearing in a boot. I had some complications because I developed an ulcer in the cast at an incision site on the bottom of my foot. It became infected when I started walking, so I had to go back to NWB. So far I'm optimistic it will help, but I can't say for sure as I do still have pain and I haven't gone to a shoe yet. I'm hopeful to be in a shoe next week, I'm working with PT. I have developed nerve damage on my outer foot, but hoping it's temporary. This recovery has been extremely rough . I have been told that the 10 screws and 2 plates they put in my midfoot will likely need to come out at some point. In terms of fusion healing it has gone really well. I'm sorry I wish I had more results for you.

    Thanks

Cassidy how are you now? I had my 1st-3rd metatarsals fused 02/2019 and am having a lot of pain in my outer foot. My doctor is not recommending having my 4th and 5th metatarsals fused as he says I am too young.
    thanks in advancef

    Hi Cross,

I am 1 1/2 years post op the 4th and 5th fusion and I had the hardware removed, paroneal tendon Debridement, and a PRP injection in January 2020. I'm still having pain, but my foot is deformed and now they are saying that the 5th metatarsal was set to low and is causing over loading. I'm getting fitted for a brace that will hopefully help the pain and hold off the need for anything more surgically for a few years. I would agree with your doctor don't have the fusion until there are no other options. I really hope you can find some relief, PRP might be an option to look into that might help too. I wish I had better things to report, but unfortunately I don't.
