Hi, I am 8 weeks post bunion surgery (austin and osteotomy) with a permanent screw in my foot. My surgeon asked me if I had issues wearing a watch or with belt buckles on my skin - I told him no, but I can't wear "cheap" fashion earrings, as I'm allergic to them (my ear lobes become red, hot, itchy & a bit swollen). I have a burning sensation on the top of my foot where the bunion was (around the incision area), it aches and is sort of reddish/light purple (a small contained circle). Does anyone know if this is a normal healing reaction? I'm concerned I may be allergic to the metal screw... I'm calling the doctor's office as soon as it opens to see if I can get an appointment before my regularly scheduled one. Thanks!

Allergy to a metal screw is very rare, so consider other issues first. There are many things that could be causing the healing. The Dr really should check it.

Thanks so much Craig, that is good to hear! I'm going for a follow up next week, I was just wondering if it was a common issue, & I'd be calling for an emergency appointment sooner! :)

What happened with the issue of screws after procedure? I had the same surgery and had 3 out of 5 screws removed and now I think I’m having pain from the imbedded screws in my toe. I don’t want another surgery!
