My 15 year old son has a frequent and painful problem of his big toe popping out the socket.
He's fairly active and whilst it often happens when he's playing sport - from basketball to karate - it sometimes happens when he's doing nothing at all. Usually he can easily manipulate it back in but in occasions he has to leave it quite some time before he is able to do so.
It's painful when it moves but the pain resolves when the toe is realigned.
    He's tall (6'1") and lanky (9st 7lb) with size 11 feet.
Not seen anyone about it as hoped it would just stop happening.
Not sure of any other symptoms that might assist with diagnosis/advice.
    We're in UK.
Any idea what the problem might be? Should we be seeking medical advice/attention?
    Thanks in advance ...

I have the same problem i was playing football and i jumped to grab the ball and i was barefooted and when i fell on my feet there was a bump or little rock under the surface of the grass and my bit toe popped very loud. I was in crazy pain and my whole foot was 3 times the normal size and it was all bruised. Here i am almost 3 months later and i just popped it out of socket again while running on the threadmill at the gym. It is such a pain to deal with because you cant play sports and it even hurts from time to time while not doing anything. I am going to go to the doctor probably in about a week and i am going to check it out.

    Hi Romulus,

I have been having the same issue with my toe continuously popping out of the socket during sports. It originally popped while I was playing beach soccer. I took a month off and then ran about 5 times over the course of 2 weeks, then I tried to play soccer - it was fine for most of the game, then towards the end, it popped and now my toe is all kinds of shades of blue and puple again. I am replying to see what your final resolution is. I saw an orthopedic foot doctor once and it cost me about $400 out of pocket for an appointment that lasted 10 minutes and he told me to come back in six weeks. Well I can't afford to keep doing that, and I was hoping that you would have some advice. Thanks
