I just got back from a week-long vacation that required lots of walking every day. I wore tennis shoes that I don’t normally wear on each day of the trip. Also walked about 3-4 miles for 5 of those days, which I don’t normally do.

I came back from the trip and noticed that my left big toe had a bruise on the left side next to the nail, and it was slightly swollen. Now, I thought at first that it was an ingrown toenail because I’ve had one before on the other foot, and until recently I used to cut my nails curved and jagged pretty badly. Also, there is some dried blood on the corner of the nail on that side. Sometimes I do hit my big toe on a corner of a table or chair or something, the last time that’s happened was a couple weeks ago though.

There’s no pain on my toe at all. For an hour on the day after the big trip I felt slight numbness where the bruise was, but for the last 36 hours have not felt that since. Any ideas of what this could be? I’m looking to the internet for advice first before shelling out tons of money for a doctor visit.
