I am 25 years old and I have a bunion on my left foot on the big toe. It recently started giving me severe pain, not just at the bunion location, but the entire toe and down past the arch of my foot. I have a bunion surgery scheduled for November 30, but he didn't tell me the exact "name" of the surgery, and I am wanting to research it further. He said that he is doing the more extensive surgery that doesn't just remove bone from the bunion, but actually operates down near the arch of my foot as well. Do any of you know what type of bunion surgery this may be? Thank you :)

It sounds like you probably have metatarsus primus varus along with the bunion bump and hallux valgus and that an osteotomy near the base of the first metatarsal or a Lapidus procedure is intended. But tell me why you are asking here instead of asking your surgeon as I can only guess. I would recommend that you obtain a full description from your doctor of what is intended along with the success rates in your surgeon's hands, the common side effects and complications and the expectations during the recovery period.
