On Feb. 14th I fell down stairs and had an avulsion ankle fracture. I wore a splint for 4 days and then a bootie after that. When the splint was taken off, my entire foot, ankle and lower leg were very swollen.

After almost 8 weeks now, my ankle is healing and my lower leg is no longer swollen but my entire foot and ankle are just as swollen as before and when I stand up on my bootie (no moving) my foot burns and has a crushing pain and feels like it's going to explode so I can't stand for more than a minute. I have been in a wheelchair for the last almost two months. I've taken regular photos of my foot since 2/22/18 and my foot is just as swollen, darker-bluish-red-purple and extremely painful. I was told only my ankle broke (plus I tore some ligament and tendons). Is this normal to have such a swollen, painful foot after all this time? My toes look like little balloons, they are also swollen. Thanks, Martha

Its not "normal"; something is going on that should not be going on. That needs to investigated by imaging and other assessents.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I hope whatever it is can heal in time, I can't tolerate anesthesia for surgery.
