I have a pain that started in the ball of my right foot and now has spread to the top of my foot towards the arch. It is fairly continuous. There is no obvious reddening, swelling or taut skin. I am retired, an active walker and live partly in a hot climate where shoes/sandals are only worn to go into the town, i.e. 3 or 4 hours per day typically. Any thoughts?

Pain in the ball of the foot and arch does not give much of a clue as to what might be the problem. It could be anything from a Morton's neuroma to arthritis to bursitis to capsulitis and much, much more, although most such situation would not "spread" to the dorsum of the foot. "Thoughts" will likely get you no where, as most such painful foot problems cannot effectively be self-treated, and you will likely need to see a doctor anyhow. So why not save yourself time and aggravation and call upon a podiatrist. Forums are not adequate venues for establishing most diagnoses, but after a diagnosis is made, it may serve as a good place to obtain a better general understanding of the condition and a discussion regarding the alternative treatments available, and their pros and cons. Such is the REAL purpose and function of sites such as this.
