It has been a week since I was told I can start using crutches to walk again... started using both crutches for couple days then was told to then use only 1 crutch for a few more days all the while to wear supportive shoes which I did. My foot keeps swelling and I've been icing it, elevating it and taking ibuprofen every 6 hours. Is this normal? How long can I expect this to keep occurring? I am going to call my md tomorrow (today is a holiday) and I'm concerned. Think I should be getting therapy at this point? Foot still feels numbish too, tingling.......thank you for your honest thoughts in advance! Can't wait to walk normal again and want to do the right thing so badly.

Its not normal, but does happen. Just keep doing what you are doing and progressively increase the load (walking distance etc) on the area ... let pain guide you; keep within what the pain is telling you.
See what you Dr says, as they will know a lot more than I do about your situation, but some physical therapy to help with may be needed.
