I had hammer toe corrections on the 2nd toes of both feet 27 hours ago. Smart toe implants were used and tendons were released. In addition my big toe bones were shaved down on the interior sides where my sideways hammertoe had created rivets and bumps on the bone over the years.

I was prescribed oxycodone 5/500. Surgery ended at 4:30 pm and the numbness from surgery started to wear off in recovery. I took my first pain pill at 6 when I got home. I took another at 10pm and more or less slept through the night.

This am pain was very strong. I have had shoulder, hemorrhoid and sinus reconstruction surgeries in the past. I do not remember the pain being this bad. I am an active 44 yr old male in good health.

Today I took the oxycodone at 6:30, 9:30 and got no relief. Called the dr and was instructed to double up with 1 hour between. Took them at 12 and 12:30. No relief. Dr had me come in to check.

He unwrappped, said the discoloration and saturation is ok. He gave me local injections in my feet to temporarily numb them. It took effect in about 10 minutes. He wrote an Rx for 10mg no Tylenol oxycodone.

I took the higher dose pill at 4:30. By then the local had worn off in my left foot but was holding in my right. No relief in left foot. I took another pill at 6pm and a 0.5 generic xanex. Worse pain. Now in right foot as well. Took an 800 mg Ibuprofen at 7pm and another 10mg at 8pm. It is now 8:30 and still have the same level of pain (an 8), can't sleep and am being monopolized by the discomfort. In addition now have a fair amount of burning sensation on outer left foot near but below and outside edge of of foot.

I am doing the ice under the ankle and have done bed rest except bathroom and going to the dr office. Feet elevated above heart. Pain is a steady 8.

Is this normal in the first 24 to 48 hours? I am not even feeling loopy from all of this medication.

I am a non drinker and non recreational drug user. First foot problem.

    Thanks from San Diego.

If the pain meds are not touching the pain, I would strongly suggest calling your doctor now!! Even if he is not in the office, he must have an answering service.

    Good luck
