Is delayed pain after ankle ligament injury possible?

I suspect that it´s possible to have delayed onset of pain with ankle ligament injuries (talking about a few tens of minutes), but does anyone happen to know any scientific articles or websites mentioning/explaining this possibility? That the pain wouldn´t necessarily start immediately at the very moment when injury occurs, with ligament tears or strechings?

Wondering because of my own ligament injury, I´d need to have some more official explanation for the delayed pain I had.
