Can anyone please tell me if this is a jones fracture. My first doctor told me it was a jones. Then asked to see a different doctor as wanted to request surgery and then this one told me it was not a jones. I have now had this 17 weeks, walking with pain. This xray was taken at 6 weeks (I know its not the best image). Can anyone please confirm whether this is a jones.

Is there anyone who has had a Jones fracture that looks very similar to this? I also had an xray done at 14 weeks that didnt look much different to be honest. Would like to hear from anyone that had a similar xray image or that has a Jones fracture that is in a different place. Just want to put my mind at rest. Thank you to anyone who can reply!

Would appreciate anyones reply! Does the location of the fracture look similar to that of a Jones fracture?

It does look like the xray I had taken for my Jones fracture. The only diff between your xray and mine is that it looks like your fracture goes part way across the bone and mine looked like it went all the way across. Yours also seems to have a small gap where the break is and mine didn't have that. Mine just looked like a small line straight across the bone. I am sure this doesn't help you much but I know how frustrating on this site it is to not get anyone to answer.

Thank you for repling back to me! I am frustrated as I have had this fracture for over 18 weeks and still have pain. I am due to go back on the 13 September for another xray and to decided if I need surgery! The actual xray does show the fracture line going all the way through, this just isnt that clear! Can you tell me howw long yours took, your history of your healing please. Thanks again!

I am still in a boot. I broke mine on July20, the E.R put a splint on it and told me no weight bearing for 6 to 8 wks. Went to the orthopedist the next day, he took off the splint and put me in a boot. Still nwb. Saw him again two wks later had xray that showed some healing and he told me I could do pwb. I see him tomorrow which will be 6 wks since the break but he says I don't need an xray he can tell by looking if it is healed or not. I am not comfortable with this I feel I need an xray. I am still having slight pain with use, more so if I have used it alot. There are times it wakes me up hurting. Also I put an ace wrap on it to sleep. I posted on here asking if anyone had ever had a Jones fracture heal in 6 wks but no one has ever answered back.

Not a dr. so I don't know if this classifies as a Jones Fracture but mine was break in the same spot on the other end of the 5th metatarsal before the start of the little toe. Mine was definitely a Jones Fracture & at 3 wks. there was no change from the original xray so I had surgery at the 4th wk. Very glad I did! I am now 5 wks. post-op & will be able to put weight on it at 8 wks. if all continues as it is. 12 wks. NWB is long enough in my book!! If you're not getting satisfaction with your dr. then change! There are people on here a year or more & they're not walking without pain because the drs. waiting on surgery. No way would I ever do that! Life's too short!!! Good luck!! :)

This is what I thought! I have tried to get an earlier appointment, but tbh it was such a pain in the past! One of my follow up appointments got delayed for 9 weeks! I still have pain, I want to have surgery, but was asked, why would I want surgery if it could heal on its own! Maybe because I didnt want this to happen! I am so fed up! I will definately be demanding surgery if this fracture is still not healed. After 20 weeks of putting up with this I think I am entitled to push for this, even if I have to chain myself to the seat! lol.

I would love to hear from anyone who has had to go a long time like this! Did it result in problems later, did you eventually get surgery? Would love to hear from anyone!

It all started 11th April: walking in the garden and heard a snap! Fell to the ground in pain. Went to A&E and was placed in a slab back cast.
20th April: Placed in hard cast with no weight bearing! Told it is a Jones fracture.
18th May: had xray that showed slight if any healing. Placed in walking boot, with weight bearing.
25th May: Saw another doctor as I was not happy with advice given previously. He told me it was not a Jones fracture and that I did not need to wear the boot. Took his advice, but now know that he was a shoulder specialist! HE told me I did not need an operation.
19 July: Another xray, showed slight healing, but tbh didnt look any different to the one above! Again told I did not need an operation and to come back in 8 weeks. If not fully healed, to then discuss possible operation.

Now waiting to see doctor on the 13th September, seems like I have just been put on hold!

I am also worried about problems in the future like arthiritus and long term pain.

  9. Dude, you nailed it. Jones Fracture. I get these all the time. Just have the surgery and you'll be fixed up. Don't suffer for longer than you have must. Just get the surgery, and see a real foot doc. Not one of these doc-in-a-box guys.

Hi, have you had Jones fractures yourself? If so, did you have surgery? If not, do you mind me asking how you know this is a Jones! The longer I've had this fracture the more I doubt it is! :-(

I was diagnosed with a jones fracture nov 17, 2010.
I had no idea what a nightmare I would be facing!
It wasn't until march that I was walking again. I did not have surgery, but would have pushed for it if it had gone any longer!!
I am walking and running again, just still some swelling at night, and a bit achy.
Hang in there... I thought I would never walk again, but I am now. Only a little limping when I get overly tired! Good luck to you!

I saw the dr on Sept 1 and he told me to gradually work my way out of the boot. Start weight bearing all the time with either the boot or a sturdy athletic shoe. He did xray and say that fracture was healing. I gave up the boot on Sept 7 and have been wearing my work out shoes since. The problem I am having now is my ankle and the little toes on the foot I broke. If I try to go downstairs my outside of the ankle hurts and pulls all the way to my toes and my two little toes hurt when I curl or move them, plus it hurts at the area where the break was. I am concerned because the dr said I had pretty bad ostopenia in my foot and would need to be careful not to get a stress fracture. This is my concern with the toe area. I walk with a slight limp because of my toes.

Well I went back on the 13th, had another xray which showed the fracture has almost healed! Good news! But, it does not explain why I still have pain in the fracture site. I have now been booked to have an MRI, then back to see consulatant on the 25th October! This has been a long a painful journey - a total of 23 weeks so far.
If anyone has been in this position I would love to hear your story!
Are there any reasons to why I should still have pain at the fracture site even though it has almost healed?

Glad to hear your fracture is healing. Sorry for the continued pain. I think that this can be such a frustrating injury that people have to reach out and ask someone, anyone if they have had the same long healing time, pain, frustrations, ect. You write and want a response in hope of finding your not alone in the frustration and to get some idea of when your life will get back to normal.
I think that medicine should really take a second look as to how proximal 5th metatarsal fractures are treated. Just because one isn't an "elite athlete" doesn't mean that their injury shouldn't be treated any less aggressively then if they were. A mother of four children needs her feet as much as a man that slam dunks a basketball on the college level. Or a man who works on his feet 12 hours per day. Or a student.
I have been out of work 15 weeks with a 5th met avulsion fracture. Actually there were two fractures beside each other. My doc was hoping this would heal on its own but alas, NO!! It is now a fibrous union and requires surgery to fix it. I've read everything I can get my hands on about this type of fracture. It's very hard to understand all the terminology and complications to this fracture. I have found a new doc and I just want this over with. Things could be worse, much worse, but it is just a frustrating pain in the foot injury!!

I agree so much with what you wrote. I really just want to hear from ppl who are in the same boat as I am with this fracture. I am almost 15 wks post fracture and my foot still hurts at the fracture site and swells. It is not unbearable pain, just a nagging, aching sort. I feel it is not bad enough to go back to the dr but I feel it is still not healed. Plus I continue to have pain where my toes meet my foot. Haven't gone back to the gym yet because any extra walking or standing just makes my foot swell more. Really not sure what to do and I am nurse. lol Which I guess really means nothing when I know nothing about ortho.
