    Hi,
On Sept 7th I stepped down out of the tack room in the barn and rolled my left foot. What I thought was pulled tendons was really a fractured 5th metatarsal bone. On the 11th I had surgery to put a screw in to repair it. I went 2 weeks in the boot after surgery, 4 weeks in hard casts and am now in the midst of another 3 week stint in the boot. No weight bearing and lots of elevation. I am so thankful for the knee scooter!

I have several questions. How long before I can bear weight on my foot again?! Also, last week l started getting periodic excruciating, burning pain mainly at the surgical scar and in the area where the screw is (@ least where I THINK it is!) I don't go back to my doctor for another week. Is this normal or should I contact her? Thanks in advance for the help!

If you are concerned, contact the dr.
You should be able to start gentle weight bearing about now; be guided by the pain.
Movement and weightbearing is extremely important as soon as the pain and healing allows.
Do lots of "movement" of the foot in the air.
The pain around surgical site is not unusual and typically passes - take some pain relief and MOVE!

The doctors response to everything is "You are healing just as I expected." If I call with concerns or questions that is my EMAILED response. I go back Thursday and have a list of questions I want answers or explanations for before I leave!
I was ok with all of it until this searing, burning pain started. That freaks me out a bit. I do work it in the air quite a lot to try to loosen up my stiff muscles. It also swells up within 10 minutes if it's not elevated. After 8 weeks of NWB and elevation I am going stir crazy!

    Thank you for your advice!
