Metatarsal Repair, hardware removal?

Hello. I seek answers, seems like this is a good forum for this quest. Nov 05 I had a motorcycle wreck at the track, Left foot Metatarsal 3, 4 and 5 were fractured and dislocated. I self-recovered and drove myself to the hospital nearly 80 miles away eating all the snack food I could grab before my body crashed. A few days later the US Army repaired my foot, hardware on 3 and 4 consisting of a plate with screws and on 5 one lone screw.

I suffered a Pulmonary Embolism in May 06 from a DVT which nearly took me out permanently. Coumadin for the next 6 months, all is well except the swelling. I've been given compression socks below the knee, this helps but I still have lots of swelling in the entire leg below the knee, as I said the socks help, but don't prevent swelling. I've resumed a near complete recovery including racing the motorcycles again, but running is something I just can't do as well as before b/c of the numbness and swelling in the foot and leg, numbness in the top of the foot especially.

I've been given a medical cream *FLU/CYC/GAB/LID LIPO which appears to stimulate the nerves, but, it's rather addicting, and very expensive, and wonder if it's worth $7500.00 for the 4 tubes supplied every 3 months?

My swelling is especially poignant tonight, and am thinking of going in to see my General MD and get the ball rolling for an evaluation on this swelling? So, my question is could this edemic swelling be caused by the remaining hardware in my body on my foot? The swelling is localized in that area, and the bones have completely healed.

Many thanks for your medical opinions.
