My son was diagnosed with grade 3 metatarsus adducts at the age of 9 months. After serial casting for 6 weeks and straight last correction shoes failed to correct the condition my son has recently had an operation. He had a tendon transfer of his first metatarsal tendon which was transferred to, i think, his third of fourth metatarsal. He is currently in casts for 6 weeks while the tendon 'takes' and will then be prescribed reverse last correction boots until the surgeon is happy that correction has been maintained. He will them be prescribed straight last correction boots which he will wear for a few years. What i don't understand is why he has to wear the boots. Because the tendon has been transferred, he can no longer turn his feet inwards. If he can no longer turn them inwards, the boots would be pointless as they won't be correcting anything. I understand wearing the reverse last boots may help take the strain of the foot while the tendon is still 'taking' but why the straight last boots?
