My 12 year old son was diagnosed with this in both feet. He desperately wants to play sports and the non surgical recommendations haven’t worked. He had an boot cast for 4 months, but when he come out of it and into custom made orthotics the pain is back. I’m not sure what to do, I’ve read that there are new ways to do the surgery but I’m concerned with subjecting a 12 year old to this kind of surgery. He loves sports and always ends up with a bruised swollen ankle that kills him, so I want him to have relief, I’m just not sure what that is.

If the standard conservative options have failed, then there is no other option that surgery. Discuss it with a surgeon and see what they think.
