It started a couple of months ago. At first I thought it was my shoes. But it was every pair of shoes I own. So then I thought it was my orthodics. But it happened even without my orthodics in the shoes. Now I can even hear my left foot squeaking when I walk, with every step, when I'm not wearing shoes!

It only happens when I'm walking or going down stairs. The squeaking happens with just about every step I take now. It sounds like it's coming from my heal/ankle on both feet, but most often my left foot. It is pretty loud, sounds almost metalic, like a squeaky shopping cart. There is no pain associated with the movement of my foot when it's squeaking, but sometimes my ankles have a dull ache, not sure if there is any corrolation, however.

    I'm male, 47, 5-9, 230 lbs. in California

I know, right? Some WD-40 or something. LOL.

Yes, both my spouse and my coworkers can hear the squeaking, too. It's not just me.

Me too! I thought it was my black shoes, then my brown shoes too, but it's actually my left foot! I just realized it happens barefoot too. Will continue to Google for the answer... I am 5'11, 230 Lbs.

    Is this a wind-up ?

In over 35 years of practising Podiatry I have never heard a foot squeak.

I have heard them pop, click, crunch, grind and grate, but squeaking is a new one on me.

I hope that after you have seen your doctor you'll come back to this forum and tell us what the diagnosis is.

    Thanks

Oh my gosh. The same progression of discovery for me. My co-workers have all commented on it. I had orthotics in both of my pairs of shoes but then noticed it barefooted as well. It does not hurt, but it is rather loud. Definitely loud enough for others to notice and comment even 15-20 feet away in a small office building. Speed of gait does not seem to make a difference and it is not every step. It sometimes goes a few days with nothing and yesterday and today it has been almost every step. Only my right foot. Because it does not hurt I have felt a little bit silly mentioning it to or making a dictor's appointment for it.

The only thing I could think of was that when I was a college senior I had a compression fracture on that heel (broke it up into the foot after falling on to a pool deck from a practice diving board). I was in a cast for 6 weeks and it has never bothered me...now it's just loud! Everyone I have asked calls it a "squeak" not a grind, pop, click, crunch, or grate, but I have to admit neither I nor my friends use the word "grate" to describe sound normally.

I am curious about it, but not enough to spend the money for a doctor's appointment. Maybe at my next check up...if only to see the weird look on my doctor's face if it is as unusual as the podiatrists are stating. IF anyone finds anything out, I would love to hear it.

Did you find out what the squeeking was attributed to? I have a client who's heel is squeeking and you can feelt he skin rubbing gently over the fascia of around his achillies heel. I've never encountered this type of phenomena in my 11 years of massge. If you find out anything please share the info with me if you would. I am very curious to know what it is and if there is any risk of injury steming from the issue.

    Hi,

I am from Dubai and I have the same problem with my left foot heel. People hear it but dont believe its my foot. There is no pain and it is not constant, but usually on days i am fatigued or have walked a lot.

It is weird and I am worried. Has anyone found out what this is???

I have no history of problems of joints, bones etc

Wow thought I was the only "tinMan"... My wife thought it was my sneakers, until she noticed I was only in socks. Only left foot, had previous surgery on it. I get bad cramping in toes, gets me outta bed, and unbearable at times. Please can someone share there diagnosis, I told my doc, thinking he was gonna refere to a shrink, tried to play a tune by walking for him but of course not a squeeking.....

My feet starting squeaking about two weeks ago, I first thought it was my shoes, then I tried other shoes, then I thought that perhaps it was my socks rubbing against the inside of my shoe in some ridciulous way - none of the above. It is my feet! WTF? Would a podiatrist even be able to advise on this crazy squeak? Seriously, does nobody have ant further feedback on this. I am very curious to know what this could be.

Thanks sooo much for the belt comment. I was freaking out after having this problem with two pairs of dress shoes. Today on casual Friday I thought "What the hell?!?! My sneakers have never squeaked before." Took my sneakers off and still heard squeaking... It was my belt. LOL! No disrespect to those who's feet squeak, I hope you find answers.

My feet squeek too. This started for me a few months ago, slow progression, no pain, but it is getting louder. Now I am hearing it in both feet. I'm 48, never had broken bones or played sports. I do wear boots, which has affected my right knee, so I quit wearing the heavier ones.
