    Hello everyone

My toenail was ripped mostly off (flipped up like a car hood) after "stubbing" my toe on cement on 5/28/18. I went to urgent care who numbed it up and removed the nail all the way to prevent infection and catching on things. Since then I've kept it covered with telfa and Neosporin.....now I'm doing that just during the day while wearing Crocs at work (only comfy shoes). At home I have it uncovered and wear sandals. At night I've progressed to keeping it uncovered, but wearing a sock. I wash it in the shower, but haven't done any true soaks as I don't have a soaking bin to use. I'm also cutting back on the Neosporin during the day as it seems to make the odd white layer that's forming too soft, and that makes me more sensitive.

Here's the thing....no sign if a nail yet! I'm very concerned, as I wear a lot of open toed shoes in the summer. I understand full nail growth can take a year or more, but I feel like, based on things I've read, I should at least be seeing a tiny something. There's some swelling on/above where the cuticle used to be, but nothing that appears to be a nail. Should be I getting too excited yet?

It can take months to growth back.
Or, there could be damage to the nails growing area which means it may not grow back normally and may be thickened and/or distorted. Only time will tell.
