I'm a 25 years old female, physically active. 15 days ago I tripped and rolled my ankle inwards, heard a crack, had an xray, and found out that I had an Avulsion Fracture of my fifth metatarsal bone. Was in a cast for 12 days, totally immobile.

On the 13th day, I was given an air boot. Doctor said it is better to not walk. But I couldn't be inmobile because I have to walk to work.

I have absolutely zero pain when I walk. I also don't feel any pain when I'm wearing the cast, even right after the injury (I do have bruises still).

Do you guys think the fracture can still heal with me walking with air boots? So far I have been walking on the 13th, 14th and 15th day. Today is the 15th day.

You should be OK to walk within reason and carfully.
Did the dr say why he thought there was no pain? Do you have normal sensation in the area?

Hi thanks for responding! Doctor pressed around my foot and there is indeed no pain. He did not comment further. I can feel all sensations. When i press on my bruise (nearby) there is those bruised pain. But no pain when I walk.

The fracture is not displaced. And since I'm not in pain I just walk with the boots as usual. I'm a bit worried since the doctor's instruction is no walking at all. Possible for Avulsion Fracture to heal on its own even with me walking around?

Oh! I did hit against a wall twice accidentally. It hurts for that second. I'm so scared that it breaks up all the soft callus that are forming now!
