A week ago the top of my foot began hurting on a run, but I thought it was bc it was cold. The area is on the top of my foot, just below the toes and between my big toe and the second toe. There are a few bumps, but not bony bumps. The bumps are not visible. They are soft, and are muscle-y bumps. No swelling. Foot appears completely normal. Bumps only hurt when I press it really hard. After it hurt for another day, I stopped running for 4 days and was barely walking and just did RICE. Even though I stopped, it has not improved. I feel a pinch just above the bumps in every step I take (both walking and running). The pinch is not always super painful, but it's really annoying and I can't run.

The doctor took an x-ray, confirming that it is not a stress fracture. He said he doesn't know what it is, but he thinks it won't get worse from running and I should just wear compression socks. He has me taking 9 anti-inflammatory pills every day for 3 days.

I am literally so confused. What do I have???

Sorry, based on your description I have no idea what it could be.
    An ultrasound would be helpful.
