Morning- I am hoping someone could help please.
My husband- a fit, lean and healthy 55 year old has hallux rigidus on his right foot . He has been offered either a pinned fusion or a cheilectomy. His surgeon is reluctant to advise one over another-
Would anyone be able to give us some thought/ pros/ cons/ personal experience.
    Thank you

Hard to say without knowing a lot ore. Perhaps a cheilectomy .... as a fusion can be done later if that does not work.

Thank you- does the bone not just grow back in a response to the trauma of the shaving?
I'm just imagining it would create more bone cells like a fracture healing.

One of the complications of any 1st mpj surgery is decreased range of motion. The bone may not grow back right away, but the scar tissue, from surgery, can limit the motion. Early motion is important for preventing adhesions.

Has he tried all the conservative things like orthoses and rocker tip shoes?
