I am 4 months post modified kinder. Prior the the surgery, I had PT to no avail. After the surgery, I had physical therapy at a different facility. I was not overly impressed by the pt. Despite not feeling that much was being done, both the pt and doctor felt that my range of motion and strength were good. I stopped therapy about four weeks ago. At this point in my recovery, if I walk without my orthotics for any period of time, my foot gets sore. I definitely feel a lot better with the orthotics, however as the day progresses, the surgical site starts to become tender to the touch. It becomes increasingly difficult to wear a sneaker or shoe because the pressure of the shoe on the surgical area is a problem. The symptoms get worse towards the end of the week and by early afternoon. Over the weekend, when I am able to slow down a bit, the symptoms do improve. The doctor feels the foot is heeling well. He said that he had to repair many micro tears at the insertion and that tendon work sometimes takes awhile to heal. He sent me for more PT. I had my first appointment with a new pt yesterday. This PT said that for his first job, he worked in the podiatry dept or a major hospital for three years. He is now working as a pt in a local hospital's outpatient department. I also have grade 3-4 arthritis, tracking issues, patella alta in both knees and had ruptured a disc at the l-5 years ago. This new pt had a very different take on things. First, he said that the strength was good and side to side, the range was ok BUT when looking at the range/movement used for pushing off, the ankle joint does not glide properly. I was able to see the difference between the two feet. I could feel the surgical foot actually lock up and a certain point. We are starting out with exercises and if they do not result in improvement in about two weeks, the pt will do some direct manipulation. He is the first pt to look at the entire picture. He is also going to work on core strength/stability and overall allignment to alleviate some of the pressure on my knees. The pt feels that as the ankle moves in a more natural mannar and my muscle balance improves, the soreness by the insertion area will improve as a result of improved foot position. He description of the orthopedic minefield that I have as the feet are like the tires. If that allignment is off, then everything else is thrown off also. The new pt seems to know his stuff.

The new pt was the only one to really look at range of motion in more than just side to side movement. Is it common for professionals to have such differing opinions about the foot movement and strength? I realize that on an internet forumn your imput can only be general but any insights would be appreciated.

    Thank you

I do not know what specific Joints are being assessed as to their ranges of motion or whether such ranges, normal or restricted, have anything to do with either the surgery you had or your present complaints. Opinions are just that, and opinions regarding most anything commonly differ among professionals. That why they are consider opinions and not absolutes.
