    Hi. :)
The toe next to my big toe looks like it has toe toenails growing on the same nail bed. I have never broken any toe and I have had this ever since I was born. The toe itself looks normal except it is "flared out"(that's the best way I can describe it) at the end. The toenail is split down the middle, but it is VERY split, like there are two toenails. Does anyone know what this could be?
    Thanks,
    Lolipop.

    Hi,

Congenital split toenails is an uncommon normal variation. (Which means it makes you extra special)

The only reason to have it treated is if it causes pain or discomfort. Usually they are managed just fine with normal cutting technique.

If you are concerned, go see a podiatrist. A podiatrist can cut and shape the nail so it won't hurt.

I also have a split pinkie toenail. I've had it since I can remember. It may be uncommon but I started observing and asking other family members about their toenails just out of curiosity, and I've found that my mother has the same, as do two of my four siblings, my daughter, and one of my two granddaughters. Is there a name for this type of variation?

In my practice days i often found a nail that was not normal. these were of inherited and it was surprising how many there were. As has been commented that makes the person special!.
