    Hi,
2.5 months ago i was playing basketball in shoes that were too small and I stubbed both big toes multiple times. my left toenail lifted up after almost a month, connected only at the corners and there seemed to be another nail-type structure growing from the bed up. eventually the original nail got really annoying like a loose flap and i was able to cut it off with zero pain. there was a small half moon "new nail" starting to form. My right toenail turned black at the base and seemed to be fused to the skin, unlike my floppy left toenail. after about six weeks the lateral edges of the nails seemed to be curling into the skin, like ingrown toenail would. at that point it was a bit uncomfortable so i took the liberty of prying/cutting off the entire nail to reveal what also looked like a "new nail" forming.

this is my R toe today, 2.5 months later, but both look similar--

    my concerns:

    A. the "nails" seem to be depressed into the skin, especially on the sides... growing at a deeper level than the original nails .the nails are semi opaque...almost more tan/brown in certain areas. when i press it is hard, but pressing in some areas gives a sensation of tenderness
    B. something growing at the base, like on top of the nail... where is the nail bed?
    C. thick skin growing around the nail seems to be swallowing the nail...
    D. you can see the skin is really hard (like near the top corners where the nail curves. feels like callous skin :(
    E. nails bulge like in the pic ..... weird

--what do i do? is this normal looking? should i clip back the thick skin bordering the nail so that it can grow? is it even a "nail" that formed after stubbing... is it an underlying layer for a real NEW nail or is it getting in the way to the point where i should get it removed. is that the new nail?? I am worried!! Specific answers welcome!

Mine looks EXACTLY like this after two and a half months since stubbing my toe. Did it grow normal all the way out?

All this is normal- happened to me. The nail will grow back out, and when it reaches normal length, you cut off the bulge like a normal nail trim. After more growth, the nail will look like new :)

The same thing is happening to me! It sounds like this is normal but I can't seem to get underneath the top of the toenail because of all the thick, flaky skin. Is that normal?? Or do I have an ingrown toenail??

My toenail looks EXACTLY like that and I had it removed in October after trauma. It's very painful if I hit it or if my 10 month old decides to step on it. Is this normal?

My toenail appear same. No pain but I wonder if my new nail will grow properly or not. I hurt my nail four month back while playing football. I removed a pressure underneath the nail using hot pin. It stopped paining thereafter. But now my nail appear like this. Top part of toenail appear to be fusing with skin.

My nail fell off and its now growing back like this. It's very painful! AFter close inspection it appeared the nail was digging into the skin as it grew, which is where the bulge was. I used peroxide and nail accessories to cut space between the nail and skin. Afterwards I applied tea tree oil & calendula lotion. I plan on booking an appt with a podiatrist, somethings not right

my nail is also like this but I'm sure it's normal, is it a bad idea to get a pedicure?
