I'm in my early forties, I have been jogging for 5 years at least 3 times a week. I fractured my right foot on June 23, while jogging, stepped on half concrete, half grass and rolled my foot, heard a loud snap. I immediately stopped beating weight. The next morning I went to have my foot X-rayed and the Jones fracture was diagnosed, was given a boot, and also a hard sole shoe which I have been using. I could not do the crutches so I rented a knee scooter. Mostly I have been not putting weight on my right foot but when I rest, I do set my foot on the floor.
The swelling and bruising was permanent for about three weeks. I have not had pain, but I do feel a pressure like sensation on the foot, and it is uncomfortable at times. It also feels as if it is "hot". In the mornings I have no swelling but since I use the knee scooter and have been out and about, at night it is very much swollen. At six weeks, I went back for X-rays, the doctor said it is slowly healing from the inside out, the fracture on the outer side of the fifth metatarsal is still very much visible. I was heartbroken because I thought I would get better news. now I will be returning for X-rays at 9 weeks, which is next week. The doctor said that if it has healed some more, he might allow me to partially bear weight. I have been off work since the fracture happened. I had never sustained any fracture before this incident. I'm trying to keep positive, hopefully I will not need surgery, but the slow healing is driving me crazy. It is hard to loose my independence, it takes twice the effort to do things and I can't even drive. I'm praying this nightmare will be over soon. Anybody going through a fracture right now, I empathize with you, we're on the same boat. I would appreciate any words of encouragement, and if you have been through this, please tell me it gets better, as for now, I see no end to this.Interact
