How much I can do after foot surgery

I will be having surgery on my ankle, and my doctor says I will be unable to use that foot for any weight bearing for 3 months. I am trying to get information on what I will need to get around, get to work, bathe, etc.

I don't know if I will need a wheelchair. My doctor says I can use a knee scooter, but can you use a knee scooter to go several blocks outside? I have some problems with my left foot as well, so I can't put a lot of extra strain on my left foot. If I am in a wheelchair or knee-scooter, how do I get in a car? Get out of a car?

Can I use crutches? From what I understand, it is difficult to rely on these for lots of use during the day (too much strain on arms).

    Any help would be appreciated
