Ingrown toenail removal + phenol. Is espom salt and warm water needed?

So I had an ingrown toenail removal for the 3rd time in the last 6 years. This time the doc used phenol to burn the root of the nail bed. My question is regarding the post-op instructions. I was told to soak my foot in warm water and epsom salt for 20-30 minutes every 4-6 hours. However, when I do that it is extremely painful. So my question is whether or not soaking my foot in epsom salted warm water necessary? Will it heal properly if I don't do that. Currently I simply applied some neosporin and bandage. Is that sufficient for proper healing?

    Thanks!
