Does anyone ever get an answer and come back? My foot pain is in the same area, tender to the touch, but when I am walking, it feels like my skin is split in two! I expect to look down and see a big crack in the area of the fifth metatarsal tuberosity.. usually it's not even red. I have so many pains due to arthritis, it's not something I will bother seeing a doc about, but would like to know what I might be able to do. Maybe 10 kg overweight max..

    All,

I am 48 years old and suffered with this issue for about 6 years. I spent time with 2 different foot doctors. 8 to 10 weeks in a black boot with one and the other wanted to take a chisel to my foot and put insoles in my shoes. Neither pediatrist did anything for me.

I am today past the pain. I've discovered that for most of my life I have warn shoes that were both too short and too narrow. Too narrow being the most important.

Being a runner through high school and into early adulthood I was partial to snug fitting shoes (big mistake).

At the age of 38 I started running and biking again. I enjoyed it and got very serious, until the pain started.

The initial pain relief came after a PRP injection into the tendon. I stopped running and biking because I thought that this was the cause of the issue. About three months later I could feel the pain starting up again. Coinsedently I was shopping for shoes and I was able to reduce the pain with a shoe one size bigger. The shoe was a little more loose than I was used to, but I thought I would get used to it and I did.

For the next few years I was in new running shoes every 3 to 6 months trying to find the pare that would prevent the pain from coming back.

About a year and a half ago I was in Ross (of all places) and picked up a pair of Brooks running shoes. The sticker indicated they were size 11 so I tried them on. What an amazing feeling I had in my feet. Just awsome!

I took the shoes off and double checked the size tag on the tonge. That was when I realized they were a 2e in width. I haven't looked back. I am on my 3rd pare and have had no pain.

Four weeks ago I started running again and I have joined a Crossfit Gym. I'm down 13 pounds and I feel better than I have in 6 or 7 years.

I put my narrow bike shoes on this past week. I road 9 miles last Sunday, 12 miles on Wednesday and then 19 miles Saturday. Yesterday (Sunday) and today I can feel the beginning of the pain. I will not be putting those shoes back on.

I firmly believe that the narrow shoes irritate the Peronious Tendon where it attaches to the Tuberosity of the 5th Metatarsal.

I hope I've helped at least some of you and that you all find your relief.

Having the same issue with the outside of my foot. Looking for answer and reading of every ones pain. I do use "NOW" brand Frankincense oil I bought at Sprouts. I put a good amount on and rub it in well. {2min) It helps ALOT! Please do not go to Walmart and buy some off brand expecting the same results. We started using it to help my husbands knees. He has needed replacements for 10plus years and it helped. So please consider at least trying it. I spend $8 for one bottle that lasts about a month.

Fascinating! I found my way here, after being fed-up with the ongoing pain in my right foot. Who knew it is so common? How disappointing there’s not much to be done.

I’m 60f with no health issues or medication, no injuries, and developed pain in my right foot about two months ago. Ironically, I’d nicely been on a run of 10,000 steps per day, only to have to stop, due to pain. (It does interfere with my other exercise, too.)

In the first week, I noticed a cyst just ahead of my heel, on the sole. The location of the cyst protected it from pressure while walking, so it wasn’t the source of what was, then, somewhat generalized foot pain.

That foot doesn’t hurt much while seated, but is excruciating when I first stand. Walking is painful, but lessens a bit, the more I walk. The first step, out of bed in the morning, is probably the worst. And over the past few weeks, the pain has unmistakenly become most acute around the tuberosity of the fifth metatarsal.
