I know toenail fungus only occurs in the summer, but recently I notice some differences in my toenails. First, the nails look yellow and has a white dot that seems to get bigger day by day. Second, the skin between my toes become itchy, reddish and irritated. Painful blisters also appear in that area and ooze fluids when I wear shoes. Plus, if I contact with water, the painful and burning sensations will become worse and more obvious. My questions are:

Did I get toenail fungus or anything else?

What should I do to reduce these annoying and painful symptoms?

    Thank you!

From what you have described (without a pic or clinical assessment, this can only be general advice, not a diagnosis) it sounds like very typical fungal migration from the same organisms associated with 'athletes foot'. Fungus forms part of our normal skin flora, but in the right conditions (damp and dark), these pesky dermatophytes will proliferate and become a source of discomfort and possible secondary bacterial infection.

I would recommend using a potent fungicide, such as topical terbinafine, regularly for the skin and - dependant on the extent of nail apparatus involvement - have the nail plate professionally reduced so that topical and/or oral fungicide can be effective as a thickened nail plate will not respond to topical treatment alone.

    Hope that helps!

Thank you very much! Yesterday I went to a local drug store and asked for terbinafine. But unfortunately, I'm allergic to allylamine antifungals, so the pharmacist gave me another topical cream called Fugacil. He said that this cream contains natural, active ingredients which can be safe and effective to treat my condition. I also did quite a bit of research and found tea tree oil, lavender, thyme, etc in this cream can work for fungus. After 2 applications, I see some improvements in my toenails. Hope that these fungi will go away soon.

I'm in the same situation as you. The dermatologist diagnosed me with athlete's foot and gave me topical terbinafine. Many people seem to have luck with this, but terbinafine doesn't work for me. Maybe, it's not powerful enough to clear my infection. Could you tell me if Fugacil works for you?

Yes, Fugacil definitely works for my condition. I apply it 3 times a day and after 2 days, the skin redness and the irritation of my condition are completely gone. Now I notice the affected areas start to dry out, scab and heal. I think you should give it a try.
    Good luck!

And, does it burn the skin as most topical creams can cause side-effects to open sores?

No way. It feels very cool on my skin when applying this white cream. No tingling. No burning sensation at all. Just use a cotton swab to apply it on the area.

I have had a toenail fungus on my left big toe for several years. It seemed to be getting more severe within the last few months, and began spreading down to the base of the nail. I researched the internet for the standard treatments and home remedies, but then realized that I had a tin of BagBalm handy and thought I would give it a try and see what happens. I applied a small dab to the toe every morning and worked it under the nail and rubbed it on the sides and on top. After a week or two I noticed some improvement, and after about a month the nail has practically returned to normal. I'm not sure if the BagBalm smothered the fungus or was it the anti-bacterial ingredients that had the most effect. I can't remember where I bought it, but here are a few links that you may be interested in.
The active ingredients of Bag Balm are 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate 0.3% (antiseptic) in a petroleum jelly USP and lanolin base.

Hmmm, it is best to always check with a doctor to properly diagnose you with what you are describing with your feet.

Toenail fungus could be a possibility because from my personal experience with it, I had white and yellow nails that became really thick.

As for the blisters, I would definitely check your shoes, or go to a doctor or podiatrist to see what the root cause is.

Some of the best solutions that I found on the internet for toenail fungus that worked for me came from this website > https://toefungusjourney.com/

It has pretty good reviews of products and I have actually used some of the products from there like the Zane Hellas and the soap to help me get rid of fungus and relieve my feet of pain.

  13. Toenail fungus does not only occur in the summer. You can get infected any time of the year. The reason you might think that is maybe most cases show up in the summer. The infection can start as a small discoloration and will grow and spread as time goes by. Fungus thrives in moist, dark environments like the inside of shoes or gym showers.
The symptoms you described sounds like you might have toenail fungus as well as athlete's foot. Athlete's foot and Toenail Fungus is caused by the same type of fungus.
Toenail fungus should be treated right away to prevent it from getting worse and spreading to other parts of the body. In our clinics, we use the PinPointe Laser to eradicate the fungus. It typically requires 1 treatment and does not come with any side effects. Consult with one of our podiatrists here: https://www.lasernailtherapy.com/ or learn more by watching this video:

It's an all year round condition and usually starts in damp, sweaty, closed shoes. try to treat those as well as your nails

    Hi everyone,

    Just want to share a story with you all. My sister had most her toes riddled with a fungus for almost a decade. She tried many options which did not work on their own. In the end, this is what finally worked as she went all out;

    a) Prescribed oral anti-fungal medicine
    b) Filing back the fungus and nail body as much as possible
    c) Bathing the nails in a diluted bleach (10% solution) at least 3-4 times a week. Make sure you have filed down the nail so that the bleach can penetrate into the nail.
    d) Bleach wash socks after you have worn them and always wear new socks every day.

    Hope this helps,

    Ken.

Just a note to pass along some info. I have suffered from toenail fungus for over 30 years. I have tried all the standard OTC and prescription meds as well as some old-time home remedies. Nothing made any real difference despite staying with them for as long as 7 months. Recently I found some interesting research (5 articles) in the medical journals (NCBI). There were several articles that discussed the use of nitric oxide particles to treat toenail fungus with some beneficial results noted.

In the human body two amino acids are used to produce nitric oxide. They are L-Citrulline and L-Arginine. In an unrelated matter my Dr. had me use oral L-Citrulline to treat another issue (with success) so I decide to try the combination of these two in a cream form on my toenails. I applied a little on top of each toenail twice a day and also worked some under the toenails as best as I could. Within 3 weeks my toenails were much better. Of course I had to wait some time for the old ugly part of my toenails to grow out and get trimmed off to really see a gain but now (after 3 months) all my toenails look really supper except one which is still a little mis-happened but good color. I am going to stay on this for 7 months and then stop it to see if it will hold. If not I will reinstate use of the product.

The only product that I could find that was a cream of both citrulline and arginine was from ArgineCirculationCream and is sold on Amazon. They also sell a version with only arginine but that is not the one I used. It contains some ingredients other than those two amino acids that you probably don't need but it was all I could find.
