A strange looking thing has appeared on my heel. When I first noticed it I thought it was a blister that would eventually burst and fade away. But now I realise that it seems to be solid and full of something white and spongy, although in the mornings it is more red/pink. It is not painful, it doesn’t leak and doesn’t appear to have changed in weeks. Has anyone got any ideas what it might be?

Hi, I can confirm that is not a blister. From the pic, it appears to be maceration, which is often associated with prolonged exposure to moisture or from being occluded in a plaster/dressing. Could you please provide a little more information on how long you have had this, whether you have any underlying systemic illness, whether you have applied anything to the area, what footwear you wear most of the time and if you have any other similar lesions on the other foot?

    Cheers,
    Bel

    Hi Bel,

    Thanks for the reply.

Your suggestion makes sense. I usually wear heavy motorcycle boots all day. The weather here in England has been very hot for the last few months. When I take the boots off at the end of the day my feet are wet. This has only appeared on one foot in one place. I first noticed it about three weeks ago. In the mornings when my feet have been out of the boots for the night it is barely visible, the colour having changed from white to a normal pink colour. I think I will change my footwear and see if it improves.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, it`s been rather warm! Maybe try bamboo socks and an antiperspirant on the feet, too. It is important to dry it out, or you could end up with some tissue breakdown.
