post op bunionectomy swelling and tenderness

Hey everyone. I had an Austin bunionectomy with one screw fixation. It hasn't caused me much discomfort after the surgery. Only went through 4 vicodin that were prescribed. However, the swelling and tenderness is ungodly. I keep my foot elevated, ice for 10 minutes every 3 hours and nsaids every 6 hours. I had my first xray and bandage change this past Tuesday. He gave me an air cast but I wore it the first 36 hours and thought I was going to die so I took it off. He also said no weight bearing until after the stitches come out on the 11 of this month. Has anyone else had these issues?
